John Alves

John Alves is an experienced CFO with over 25 years of finance and operational strategy experience serving both private and public companies. John has successfully guided several startups and early stage companies through periods of hyper-growth, mergers and acquisitions, debt financing, equity capital raises and initial public offerings; with John’s successes in scaling these businesses ultimately leading to significant increases in enterprise value.

Previous to joining SVFG, John was a CFO/COO consultant predominantly focused in the enterprise software and pharmaceutical services space. In this role, John helped a variety of early stage companies achieve operational efficiencies in building and scaling “IPO ready” finance organizations and infrastructures. John’s successes included formulating and executing on operational strategy, securing much needed debt and equity growth capital, navigating through acquisitions, ERP implementations and upgrading scalable finance organizations. Prior to that, John was CFO for Accela, Inc., where he raised more than $240 million in debt and equity capital in support of that Company’s growth and acquisition strategies. Prior to Accela, John held various CFO and senior executive management roles at a variety of enterprise software companies including Serena, Inc. (acquired by MicroFocus) and Barra Inc. (acquired by MSCI), where he led both those companies through successful IPO’s. John’s experience also includes three years with a regional CPA firm in Northern California where he was a senior audit manager in the firm’s professional services practice.

John is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Science degree and an MBA both in finance and accounting and both from California State University, East Bay.
